Union Street

New Build High Specification Commercial Development

Union Street is a contemporary five-storey office block located close to London Bridge in South London. The project consisted of the construction of a high specification office block and basement, while retaining the façade of the historic Union Hall that dates back to 1872.

The building features striking contemporary design, exposed concrete frame, building services, efficient glass and zinc curtain walling and complete internal fit-out. The project focused heavily on sustainable construction and achieved the Breeam target outlined at inception.

This exceptional building uses thermal mass and efficient curtain walling to minimise energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable working environment. Rackham played a key role in developing some of these efficient features and final design.

A number of archaeological finds were discovered beneath the old building, including ancient Roman artefacts, and objects relating to the building’s former use as a court. After collection and inspection by the relevant authorities, the finds are now with the Museum of London.
